NHS Forth Valley

Project Aims:
To provide a structured mechanism for the improvment of the career and personal development of GPs and nurses.

Time:
The programme included a one day interactive workshop which addressed a number of areas including skills, career values, personal development planning. This was followed by one to one coaching meetings tailored to the career needs of each participant.

Outcomes:
Participants were able to better understand there personal career values and goals and map out a realistic and beneficial future career development path.

Open Course: Title:
Coaching in Business: included attendees from oil industry, pharmaceutical industry, NHS.

Aims:
Interactive workshop to develop business coaching skills for participants

Time:
One day workshops (we should include dates in 2004; next one is on Friday 30 January in Kinross). The programme included inspirational and useful material and encouraged participants to share experiences.

Outcomes
Participants on the programme acquired real coaching skills which they could use in the workplace. The workshop also covered the impact we each have on other people and how to better interact with others.

Major (PLC) Aims:
Counselling to managers leaving (through redundancy) in a format of group workshop and individual 1 to 1 career coaching.

To motivate and maintain people's self esteem in leaving a company to consider and reflect on career choices and ways and means to achieve personal career goals. The workshops addressed fundamentals including: the job market, transferable skills, self employment options, CV preparation, networking, interview skills.

Time:
2 day workshop followed by 7 hours of individual 1:1 sessions.

Outcomes
On completion of the workshop participants were well versed in job search fundamentals including: an excellent CV, interview skills, networking techniques, able to talk about their skills, able to write applications and letters.

The 1:1 meetings were tailored to the needs of the individual and ranged from further work on interview skills, self employment (including business plans, marketing), networking and approaching the job market. All participants on this programme achieved there career goals whether a new job, new career or a set up in business.

Individual Client Aims:
Coaching for a person looking to develop and change their career.

To encourage and motivate a person to consider, address and achieve their career goals whether it be changing employer, embarking on a new career, setting up in business, staying in the same job but making it more fulfilling. The programme incorporates personality profiling, career values, skills profiling as well as fundamentals such as CV preparation, interview skills, job search techniques, networking.

Time:
five 1:1 meetings tailored to needs of the individual and arranged to suit the pace at which they wish to proceed. The programme includes ongoing phone and e mail support.

Outcomes
Participants are supported and encouraged in achieving their career goals. Examples include: a manager unable to progress in current organisation moved to a new job in same sector; an individual developing a business idea and setting up in business; a person working with venture capital organisations to buy and then run a business in a new sector.

Healthcare Professionals Title:
Team effectiveness programme.

Aims:
To improve team interactions, to recognise and build on the values and skills of individuals, to enhance individual and team performance

Time:
1 day interactive team building workshop.

Outcomes
Individuals recognised and better understood the values and skills of each team member.

Participants supported each other in their personal goals within the team and also addressed the collective responsibilities of the team and produced a team 'charter'.

Each participant received a personal profile which assisted them in their development needs and improving interactions with others.
